Day 14

I got to meet my cousins today.

Nicolas and Mia came to visit from Long Island. They had to take a train into the city and then take a long ride on the Subway just to get here. But they made it!

Aunt Ginger came to meet me too. She's my mommy's sister.

We all had a fun time together.

Day 13

Pontifications on Pink

by Isabella Fabio

For all intents and purposes, I am a traditionalist. I respect the age worn habit of adorning infant males in blue and infant females in pink, not only for the aesthetic, but for the practical gender indentification benefits as well.

But must we have so much of it? It's on my web site (the decision of my technical advisor, I assure you--white text apparently disappears over a yellow background), my toys, my gear and most certainly dominates my wardrobe.

Kudos to my parents who have attempted to mitigate the amount of pink in my life, but there's only so much a concerned caregive can do. This is really a societal issue.

Who ultimately decided on the pink and blue standard? Why not yellow, I ask you? Or purple? I have lovely outfits in both colors that not only accentuate my finer features, but clearly indicate my status as a member of the fairer sex. And without some visual indicator, even I could not blame the uninformed observer for thinking me a member of the less intuitive gender.

But, alas, the pink phenomenon is ubiquitous, and I am merely a pawn in its reign over babyland. There are worse fates than mine, to be sure.

Day 12

I went to the doctor today. I weigh 10 pounds now.

Daddy says in basketball, a "triple-double" is when a player has double digit stats in three categories: points scored, rebounds, and assists.

I wonder if I would qualify for the baby triple-double: weight (in lbs.), height (in inches), and days old?

Sometimes I'm happy. Sometimes I'm not. It's up to you to figure out why.

ESPN says Muhammad Ali is the #1 boxer of all time. While Ali had quite an impact on sports and society, even he said that pound-for-pound, Suger Ray Robinson was the greatest boxer of all time... and I have to agree.

Day 11

A lazy Sunday around Casa Isabella.

Daddy is working on a show for ESPN that he has to complete this week. I sat in with him for a bit and passed on a few notes about how I thought the Top 20 Boxers episode of "Who's #1?" is coming together. It's a nice bit, but certainly no "Timeless," if you're asking me.

Tonight we cristened my new tub during what future infant scholars might call my first "official" bath. There was warm water and even a hint of soap. Overall I'd give it 7 out of 10 on the fun meter.

Going to the doctor tomorrow. 8 am appointment on the Upper West Side. I like to beat the morning rush hour traffic when I'm driving in the city.

I LOVE me a good bath, I do, I do.

Day 10

Double digits, Baby!

Everyone was getting a little complacent around here, thinking they had things "wired," "locked-up tight," "squared-away." So I threw them a curve and got all fussy last night. Don't get cocky, my new parents. The world still revolves around me... I say who sleeps, I say when... don't you forget it.

We went to the Inwood Farmers' Market this morning to get some fresh veggies and bread. They are going to make the market year-round in our neighborhood, which makes me happy. I gotta have my farm fresh goods 24-7-365.

This evening we headed over to Ft. Green in Brooklyn (I like to keep it real) so I could meet Vince and the boys at Chez Babette. All the fellas thought I was cute in my pink dress. Grace and her folks, Mr & Mrs. Fuchs, were there for the cookout as well. And for the record, though I may be younger, I partied Grace Fuchs under the table. She bowed out at 9:00 pm... I hung on until 9:25. Big ups for Brooklyn, yo!

My friend Grace. She went home early.

Camilo's so cool. He's European. He likes soccer.

If you like beef and wieners, Uncle Vince's is the place to be!

Mommy and Me. It's all good.

Day 9

Met some new friends today at the Mommy and Me group in Isham Park behind our building. mommy's friend was there and lots of babies too. They were all pretty cool. We may hang again, but I don't know for sure... I'll have to check my calendar.

Day 8

It's my one-week birthday today!

To celebrate, Mommy, Grandma Edie and I took a trip to the Bronx. (I like to keep it real) Just over the Broadway Bridge, not even five minutes from our apartment in northern Manhattan is a new shopping complex with a Target, Starbucks, Sprint Store and even an Applebees! All right across the street from the projects. You gotta love New York City!

We did a little shopping and had some dessert at the mecca of suburban eateries. A lovely way to celebrate one week here in the big world :-)

You can't really tell here, but I am actually protesting the corporate chain store takeover of mom-and-pop retail America. Once New York City falls...

Shopping hurts
